The Journey Begins

“He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.”

Friedrich Nietzsche

In 2014, there were only 454 people with a doctorate in philosophy.

Whether or not you have a doctorate, though, we are all philosophers at heart.

Welcome to my page–a page I decided to create for people who think about life a little more than the average person. Maybe you think of philosophy as something people do while sipping on lattes in boujee coffee shops. Ok, yeah, I’ll admit that this is oftentimes the case, but philosophy is much, much more. It is a way of life. If you view the world with a keen eye, think about things in ways that other people don’t, and find yourself constantly asking, “But, why?” then you’re in the right place. This type of thinking is a gift–it means you can take a step back and see things for how they really are. The world is full of beautiful mysteries, and it is the job of the philosopher to shed light on what is often overlooked. Thinking hard about important ideas leads to growth and more authentic ways of being. To think is to feel, and to feel is to grow.

Philosophy is near and dear to my heart. You might have noticed that the title of this site is “amor fati,” which is Latin for “love of one’s fate.” Friedrich Nietzsche, one of the best philosophers (ever), is to thank for this idea. He says that we should embrace what comes our way and view life’s happenings as a necessary part of being. More on this later, but keep it in the back of your mind for now.

Anyway, whether or not you constantly “philosophize” like I do, I hope my words provide meaning to the crazy life we live. The world is a beautiful, intense, and complex place, so why not dig deeper and uncover its mysteries? A community of people philosophizing is always better than one, so please leave comments. Let’s tackle life together, one question at a time.

Until next time,

–N.H.
